Here’s the scoop on Mitt Romney’s running mate
On August 11, Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney announced his choice of Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan to be his running mate.
Ryan was born on January 29, 1970. He grew up in the small town of Janesville, Wisconsin. He has degrees in economics and political science from Miami University in Ohio. Ryan was 28 years old when he entered Congress in 1999. Most of his professional career has been spent working for Congress. He was elected as a Wisconsin representative to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1998. He is now in his seventh term. He also serves as chair of the House Budget Committee.
Ryan made a name for himself in Congress for his conservative policy views. As chairperson of the House budget committee, Ryan has played an important role in shaping Republican policy on how to balance the federal budget and overhaul social programs.
Ryan and his wife, Janna, live in Janesville with their daughter, Liza, and two sons, Charlie and Sam.
