There is no shortage of tablets for kids. How do you choose? Older kids may clamor for the new 7-inch tablets on the market, including Apple’s iPad mini ($329), Google Nexus 7 ($199), Amazon Kindle Fire HD ($199) and Barnes & Noble’s Nook HD ($199). These tablets are great for watching videos, reading, browsing the web and playing games. Kids 9 and under can have creative fun with the leading education tablets: LeapFrog’s LeapPad 2 Explorer ($99) and VTech’s Innotab 2 ($79.99). Wii U
It has been six years since Nintendo’s instantly popular Wii gaming console launched in the U.S, bringing with it a slew of games that encouraged families to play—and move—together. This year, the console is getting its first upgrade with the release of the Wii U. Wii U includes some brand-new features that allow you to play games like you never have before. Most notably, the console comes with a touchscreen controller called the GamePad that doubles as a second screen for gameplay. While one player controls the gamepad, others can join in the fun on the main screen using Wii remotes (Wii U is compatible with most Wii controllers and accessories).
