Movie audiences fell in love with super-villain Gru (voiced by Steve Carell), his three adopted daughters, and his army of hilarious yellow minions in the 2010 animated comedy Despicable Me. The movie made $540 million, becoming the 10th biggest animated motion picture in U.S. history. This summer, Despicable Me 2 checks in on Gru as the former bad guy gets recruited to join the Anti Villain League (AVL). He is partnered with enthusiastic AVL agent Lucy Wilde (voiced by Kristen Wiig) to go undercover at the mall in search of an evil villain. Meanwhile, Gru continues to deal with his minions’ silly antics and the challenges of raising three girls, like when eldest daughter, Margo, gets her first crush. “Margo is growing up a little bit,” Miranda Cosgrove, who plays Margo, told TFK. “She has her first love interest. Gru is freaking out.” What else can fans expect from the film? The 19-year-old iCarly actress answered questions from TFK over email about Despicable Me 2 and the end of iCarly.

TFK:

Why do you think the first Despicable Me movie was so hugely popular?

MIRANDA COSGROVE:

I think audiences loved Despicable Me because it’s so different from anything else. Also there is at least one character in the movie that I think everybody can relate to. Oh, and the minions, of course!

TFK:

In the first film, Margo and her sisters are adopted by Gru and they grow close to him in spite of his villainous ways. What do you think the girls like about Gru?

COSGROVE:

Margo and her sisters like Gru's crazy gadgets and his mysterious accent. They aren't afraid of him like most people are. They actually like his secret underground layer and the minions he calls his "cousins."

TFK:

In Despicable Me 2, Margo is a little older. What is she up to in the movie?

COSGROVE:

In Despicable Me 2 you can tell that Margo, Edith, Agnes and Gru have really become a family. Margo is growing up a little bit, and she has her first love interest (Antonio, voiced by Moises Arias). Gru is freaking out and trying to stop Margo from going out with the boy and texting him all the time.

TFK:

If you had a few Minions to do your bidding for the day, what tasks would you assign them? How do you think it would work out?

COSGROVE:

If I had a few Minions, I would have them do my laundry, clean my room, cook for me and take me shopping! I think it would go pretty well, but the Minions usually end up getting into trouble somehow.

TFK:

What should kids expect if they go see Despicable Me 2?

COSGROVE:

Kids should expect to see the same lovable, crazy characters that were in the first Despicable Me but even more action and a really interesting plot. There are also some new characters that are really great like Lucy (Kristen Wiig), Eduardo (Al Pacino) and my love interest Antonio.

TFK:

iCarly ended recently with a really poignant and funny episode. What did you think about how the show wrapped up? Do you imagine what Carly’s life is like now abroad with her dad?

COSGROVE:

I was definitely sad to see iCarly end because it was such a huge part of my life. I'm super thankful to all the fans and people who supported it over the years. I was proud of how our final episode turned out! I think Carly will come back from Italy after a little while to be with Spencer, Sam and Freddie again.

TFK:

Tell us about your new puppy.

COSGROVE:

I love my new puppy, Penelope, so much! She's the best! The best part about having a dog is seeing how excited she gets when I take her new places. She loves to hike and go to the beach. I think the hardest part has been teaching her to walk with a leash. Also, she's extremely fast so if she gets out and she doesn't want you to catch her, you won't!
