Mitt Romney was born in Detroit, Michigan, on March 12, 1947. He was the youngest of four siblings. His father, George Romney, did not graduate from college, but he went on to become chairman and president of the American Motors Corporation, from 1954 to 1962. Mitt Romney and Ann Davies first met in elementary school. They married on March 21, 1969, at the home of Ann’s parents, in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Soon after, the couple returned to school at Brigham Young University, in Utah. After graduating in 1971, Romney went on to attend Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School, in Massachusetts. He graduated in 1975.

Ready to Serve
Romney was a successful businessman before deciding to run for governor of Massachusetts. He won the election. In this January 2, 2003, photo, Romney is taking the oath of office. Romney served one term, but did not run for reelection. Instead, he ran for President. He lost the 2008 Republican nomination to John McCain.
