A New Home
A caretaker at Senkwekwe Orphan Mountain Gorilla Center, in Virunga National Park, starts his morning by playing with Ihirwe, a newly arrived, orphaned mountain gorilla.
At the center, rangers care for orphaned gorillas as if the apes were their own children. This young gorilla is being fed from a bottle, just the way many human babies are fed.
All orphaned gorillas receive a full health checkup when they first arrive at the center. This caretaker is taking a baby mountain gorilla’s temperature.
