Broadway’s Animal Trainer
November 07, 2012Broadway’s Animal Trainer
Tomorrow is looking bright for Sunny. The dog, who was rescued from a shelter in Texas, will star as Sandy in the new Broadway production of the musical Annie. The show opens November 8 at the Palace Theater, in New York City. Sunny's owes his success to veteran dog trainer Bill Berloni. Berloni has rescued shelter dogs to train for the role of Annie's shaggy pal since the show's original stage production in 1976. Berloni wrote a book about the many dogs he has worked with over the years called Broadway Tails: Heartfelt Stories of Rescued Dogs Who Became Showbiz Superstars. He donates part of the book’s sales to the New York Humane Society, which helps animals.
Recently, TFK stopped by Sunny's dressing room in the Palace Theater to chat with Berloni. Watch the video above. (Reporting and editing by Kelli Plasket / Videography by Stephanie Kraus)
