Chimp Haven
October 04, 2013Chimp Haven
U.S. scientists are retiring hundreds of their chimpanzees after using them in medical research. Where will these apes go to live out their golden years? Their destination is Chimp Haven in Keithville, Louisiana. Chimp Haven is the National Chimpanzee Sanctuary—an independent, nonprofit organization that provides humane care for chimps that are no longer needed for biomedical research or other purposes. The sanctuary is also dedicated to educating the public about these endangered apes and the needs for conservation in the wild and protection in captivity.
