Q&A: Hoon Lee
Cowabunga! Fans of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon from the early 2000s will be happy to know the turtles are back in action. In Nickelodeon's rebooted show, Ninja master Hamato Yoshi’s life is shattered and ruined after a battle with Shredder. Fleeing to New York, Yoshi is caught in an accident that mutates him into a rat. In that same accident, four brother turtles are mutated to grow with human minds. Yoshi, now known as Splinter, raises the turtles, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael, beneath the streets of New York. But, Splinter knows he can't keep them underground forever. So, he devotes himself to training and protecting the turtles, to protect the only family he has left.
TFK Kid Reporter Zachary Lewis met up with Hoon Lee, the voice of Splinter, at the Nickelodeon offices in New York City. Lee has performed in many genres, including theatre, movies, and TV, but calls himself a “lapsing comic book and cartoon addict.” He told TFK he is happy to add to the history of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles characters. "I grew up with them (characters) and I know a lot of people did too," Lee told TFK. "It's great to be able to add to that."
