Q&A: Jonny Weston

In the beachside town of Santa Cruz, California, locals have adopted the motto "Live like Jay." That refers to local surfing legend Jay Moriarity, who rode Mavericks—home of some of the world's biggest waves—at just 16 years old. Before he died, Jay touched people with his joyful attitude. The movie Chasing Mavericks (Rated PG), in theaters October 26, tells the inspiring story of Jay and his mentor, Frosty Hesson (played by Gerard Butler).

Newcomer Jonny Weston plays Jay. Recently, he stopped by the TFK offices, in New York City, to talk about taking on the life-changing role. A surfer himself, Weston didn't take the opportunity lightly. "The fact that this is a true story—I felt more than just drive and excitement," he told TFK. "I felt responsibility."
