  • Scientists believe that, in the known universe, there are more than 2 TRILLION galaxies—and that each galaxy contains billions of stars with their own solar systems.

  • Cosmonaut GENNADY PADALKA holds the record for most overall time spent in space. If you add up all his missions, he’s spent a total of 879 days in space.

  • In 1998, the INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION (ISS) was launched. This feat required the USA, Russia, Japan, Europe, and Canada working together as a team. It took 10 years and more than 30 space missions to assemble the ISS.

  • Mars is home to the tallest mountain ever discovered, OLYMPUS MONS. It’s more than 16 miles tall. That’s 11 miles taller than Earth’s Mount Everest.

  • In 2012, the VOYAGER 1 SPACE PROBE left our solar system and became the first spacecraft to enter interstellar space.

  • Scientists captured the first photograph of a BLACK HOLE in 2019 by linking together eight giant telescopes. The first black hole to be photographed is 6.5 billion times the mass of our sun.
