From Our Readers

We asked our readers to tell us how they’re serving their communities. Here’s what a few of you had to say.

Line Break

Students at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary, in Wyandanch, New York, are celebrating World Kindness Day on November 13. They’ve been writing compliment-filled notes to teachers and other staff, and will distribute them along with bags of treats they’ve assembled. —Pamela C. (teacher), New York

My son Elias is a second grader. He was out raking yards for community members with high school volunteers. They also raked all of the leaves at his school, which was a big job. Elias is already excited for his next service project. —Erin B. (parent), Illinois

I’ve done community work at a garden, helping harvest food. It’s nice to see someone have a smile on their face, but it’s even better knowing that you put it there. Maybe I can start a clothing drive! —Mia C., 10, Connecticut

For the fall and winter seasons, I can rake leaves and shovel driveways for money, and donate the money to people in need. I hope we get a lot of snow this year! —Dylan G., 10, Connecticut

I could get a group of kids to make and put up signs to advertise our community’s youth center. It has lots of activities, like playing basketball, arcade games, and card games, or watching television. —Nugg C., 9, Pennsylvania
