Summertime means fun in the sun, frozen treats, and time away from school. But summer can also usher in too-toasty temperatures and the occasional bug bite. So, is summer the best season? We asked TFK readers for their thoughts. What do you think?

Although other seasons have their benefits, summer is the best season of the year for many reasons. It brings longer days and pleasant weather. Summer break gives you time to rest and spend time with your family. Additionally, extra sunlight gives you lots of vitamin D, which is healthy for your body and which boosts your mood. On top of that, summer brings lots of fresh produce, including berries, melons, other fruits, and [summer] vegetables. Also, summer is a great time to travel with family, catch up with old friends, read fun books, and participate in summer camps and other extracurricular activities.

Summer is not the best season. First, certain parts of the world already face drought, and summer makes it worse. The boiling temperatures destroy crops. My second reason is that summer is bad for kids! We get lots of bug bites during the summer. My third reason is that we get seasonal breaks throughout the year, so arguing that you can go on vacation during summer is not strong. Other seasons are less hot, making them more-ideal seasons.

I think the best season is summer. You get a break from school and homework, and may get to go to camp. It’s also very hot during the summer, so you can go to the swimming pool and enjoy cold treats like ice pops and ice cream. In the summer, there is more time to go on vacation, and days are longer, so you can have more opportunities to play with your friends.

I don’t think summer is the best season, because we have more holidays in winter. In winter, we have Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Chinese New Year, Tet (Vietnamese New Year), and a few more. Having more holidays in a season means we get to celebrate with family and friends, eat yummy food, and have fun exchanging presents.
