Kid of the Week: Audrey Zhou

Audrey Zhou, 13, California. Audrey sings and plays guitar at senior centers in her community.

Why did you want to volunteer with Melodies for Remedies?

I wanted to share my passion for music and serve the community. Music is a healing and therapeutic experience, and I’m blessed to be a part of this experience. I’ve been volunteering for Melodies for Remedies for two years now.

Do you do other volunteer work?

I perform solo concerts at various senior centers. I also had my first chance to perform at a Ronald McDonald House. I played for the kids and their families during the holidays. My friends and I also raised $125 by playing music for the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign. And I’m the lead guitarist and singer for an eighth-grade band. It’s called Fab 5 and Sid. We play at elementary school, middle school, and community events.

What kind of instruments and music do you play?

I play both classical and electric guitar. And I like writing original songs. I’ve written 11 so far!
