A Sweet Business

COURTESY CUPCAKES ON 8TH

JOHN TRUEL, 12, has found a way to make the world a little sweeter—one cupcake at a time. With the help of his mother, Patricia, John opened a bakery called Cupcakes on 8th in his hometown of Marshfield, Wisconsin. Patricia hopes to grow the business

and hire kids and adults who are differently abled, like John. He has Down syndrome, which can affect people in different ways. John is a big help in the bakery. He mixes ingredients and runs the cash register after school. The bakery attracts a crowd. “People want to educate their children that people with special needs are just like us,” she told TFK. “I want to raise awareness so people forget about the disabilities and look at the abilities.”
