TIME’s 2025 Person of the Year isn’t a person. It’s a group: the architects of artificial intelligence. This group includes AI innovators such as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Nvidia’s Jensen Huang, and Lisa Su, the CEO of Advanced Micro Devices. The announcement was made on December 11.

“Person of the Year is a powerful way to focus the world’s attention on the people that shape our lives,” says TIME’s editor in chief, Sam Jacobs. “And this year, no one had a greater impact than the individuals who imagined, designed, and built AI.”

Last year was also an exciting time in the entertainment world. Animated sensation KPop Demon Hunters was named TIME’s Breakthrough of the Year. TIME senior editor Eliza Berman called the movie “omnipresent,” meaning it was all around us. TIME also honored actor Leonardo DiCaprio and YouTube CEO Neal Mohan. Basketball player A’ja Wilson was named Athlete of the Year. In 2025, she became the first player in WNBA history to win four MVP awards.
