The butter supply in the United States is lower than normal. That’s according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. One cause is a slowdown in milk production.

Butter is in high demand for the holidays. But experts say we shouldn’t worry. “We’ve been down this road before,” Matt Herrick says. He works for the International Dairy Foods Association.

Herrick says a butter shortage is unlikely. But it could happen if people panic. Sometimes, people worry there will not be enough of something. So they buy more than they need. When many people do this, it causes a real shortage.
