Many underwater plants and animals depend on coral reefs for food and protection. But pollution and a warming planet are destroying coral reefs. Here is what you can do to protect them.
Reduce, reuse, recycle.
(Above) Plastic and other trash are harming the ocean and the animals that live there. Use less plastic. Recycle what you can.
Coral reefs are living things. They are delicate. Look, but do not touch. Stepping on or touching coral can hurt it.
Use a safe sunscreen.
Sunscreen protects your skin. But it can contain chemicals that harm coral. Look for bottles marked “reef-safe.”
Fight climate change.
Walk or bike instead of taking a car. This reduces the amount of greenhouse gas you produce. The planet will thank you.
