Kokichi Akuzawa is a mountain climber. He recently reached the summit, or top, of Japan’s Mount Fuji. He is the oldest person to do so. Akuzawa set the Guinness World Record on August 5. He is 102 years old.
Akuzawa made the trek with a group. His daughter was there. So were his granddaughter and her husband. Four friends came along, too. The climb was not easy. “I was really tempted to give up halfway through,” Akuzawa told the AP. “Reaching the summit was tough. But my friends encouraged me, and it turned out well.”
