Finding Your Path

HEATHER WARAKSA

Author Matt de la Peña has a new book. It is about kids discovering who they are. TFK Kid Reporter Zarita Asgar spoke with de la Peña. Patchwork is a “celebration of all the twists and turns of childhood,” he says. Kids often get labeled at a young age. A girl might be thought of as a dancer. A boy might be an athlete. But “the beauty of childhood is play. And possibly learning more about who we are.” The book is illustrated by Corinna Luyken. The pages start with solid blocks of color. As characters learn about themselves, colors are added. In the end, each kid has a colorful patchwork.
