Learning to Lead

3D BOOK-COVER RENDERING BY STEPHEN BLUE FOR TIME FOR KIDS

The Walk, by Winsome Bingham, tells the story of a little girl and her granny. They go on a walk. But it’s not just any walk. They’re gathering people from the community to go vote. Kid Reporter Sophia Zhang spoke with the author. It’s “part of the journey for a better world,” Bingham says. On the walk, the girl invites the people to join them. Bingham says this is symbolic. A new generation is becoming active. Young people are learning to speak up. According to the book, “leaders are not born, they’re made.” The Walk includes themes of democracy and activism. And it reminds readers that people vote for hope in the future.
