Lemonade for Maui

COURTESY JULIE MEERSCHWAM

Julian Lin raises money for people on Maui, where his friend Ryan lives.

You run a lemonade stand in New York City. What is its purpose?

Two different things. It is to show that kids can do the same as adults. And it is to help do good in the world.

What made you want to donate the proceeds to help people on Maui?

I went on vacation to Maui. Ryan rowed a boat we went on. We became friends. Ryan lost his home in the fires. That made me want to help him and his community. Maui is in trouble. If we won’t help, then really, who will?

What was the best part of this project?

Seeing Ryan and knowing how much it affected him. I feel happy we’re helping people on Maui. I also feel sad. It is hard to compute.

What advice do you have for kids who want to help others?

Doing good feels good. And a lemonade stand is always a good idea!
