The Olympics Winter Games ended on February 22. The United States had a lot to celebrate, after winning 33 medals at the Games. Only Norway won more, with 41 medals. The U.S. took home 12 gold medals. Most of these were won by female athletes.
Taking Home Gold
The U.S. women’s hockey team is no stranger to winning. It has won a medal every year since 1998. That’s when the sport was introduced to the Games. The U.S. team took home gold that year. This year, it took gold again. It beat the Canadian team in overtime.

Elana Meyers Taylor also has a lot of medal-winning experience. She’s the most decorated Black athlete in the Winter Olympics. She’s a bobsledder. This year, she won her first gold.

She was part of the winning U.S. skating team, as well. Liu felt “happy and confident” on the ice, she told TIME.
