Dogs and cats are the most common pets in the U.S. Taking care of a dog costs about $1,400 a year. A cat costs about $600.

The cost of a pet fish depends on the species. This is a betta fish. Caring for it can cost about $100 a year. And you’ll need a fish tank with filters.
