North American folklore tells of the mysterious Bigfoot. The apelike creature is towering and hairy, and leaves large footprints. In the animated film Smallfoot, opening September 28, the folklore is reversed: Snow creatures known as yetis talk about the mysterious smallfoots (also known as humans). In the movie, a yeti named Migo discovers a smallfoot. But the other yetis are convinced he is lying. Only those who belong to the Smallfoot Evidentiary Society (S.E.S.) believe that smallfoots can be real.

Actress GINA RODRIGUEZ voices the character Kolka. Kolka is a member of the S.E.S. She tries to help Migo prove that smallfoots are not a myth. “I really enjoyed digging into Kolka’s spirit,” Rodriguez told TIME for Kids. Rodriguez also believes that the interactions between yetis and smallfoots deliver a powerful message. “What a wonderful world it would be if we chose to accept and learn from those who are different, and not be fearful of someone who might have a different history or appearance,” she says.
