Line Break

Imagine walking from your backyard into a magical forest. Everyone there is depending on you. Jacquelyn Stolos’s novel Asterwood follows Madelyn and her cat, Dots, on a thrilling journey. Madelyn must help her new friends and rescue the trees in the forest. In the process, she makes some discoveries about herself and her family.

Asterwood is full of adventures and surprises. Its characters and vibrant setting transport readers to an extraordinary place from the first page. “What I really want for my readers is for the book to be alive for them, for it to excite their imagination and their intellect,” Stolos told TIME for Kids.

This novel teaches readers that we’re never too young to fight for our beliefs. Stolos wants her young readers to “feel really supported in their individuality and their ambitions to pursue what they think is right.” Readers who enjoy fantasy stories that explore themes of individuality, family, and friendships will enjoy Asterwood.
