Time-Traveling Feline

On the left, the book cover Blurmp: A Blurmp in Time shows cartoon characters popping out of a box. On the right, an author wearing glasses smiles at the camera, with a TIME for Kids Kid Reporter badge in the corner.

Line Break

Jim Benton is an author and illustrator known for his humor, expressive drawings, and silly characters. His books include a series that features a grouchy blue cat called Catwad. The series also features Blurmp, Catwad’s happy-go-lucky cat friend. Now Blurmp is the star of his own graphic novel: A Blurmp in Time.

A Blurmp in Time follows the zany and curious Blurmp as he accidentally travels through time in a cardboard box. He blasts from past to future, through ancient Egypt and outer space, and causes lots of chaos. The pictures help tell the story, and Blurmp’s facial expressions make the book even funnier.

My favorite thing about the book is how unpredictable Blurmp is. You never know what he’s going to do next. Benton hopes readers find the book entertaining. “Sometimes, I’ll do something and it will make me laugh,” he told TIME for Kids. “And if it makes me laugh, then I think there’s a chance it’ll make the readers laugh, too.”

I recommend this book for kids who like comics, time travel, and funny characters. Benton says there are more Blurmp adventures coming soon, so stay tuned.
