What's Your Pitch?

Before journalists can begin reporting a story, they need to pitch it. No, that doesn’t mean tossing it like a baseball! It means convincing an editor that a story is important and timely—basically, that it needs to be told, and told now. Why should readers care about the story? How can it be communicated in an engaging way? These questions need to be answered in a clear, concise, and persuasive pitch.

Junior Journalists, we want to know: What's your pitch? Think of a story you’d like to report on. It can be something in your community, or it can be something that affects people everywhere. Then make your pitch, either in writing or a short video. Ask a teacher, parent, or guardian to send us your submission here or to email it to tfkpressclub@time.com.
