Brighter Together

A colorful image showing the book All the Stars in the Sky by Art Coulson, illustrated by Winona Nelson. The cover art features a child and an elder holding hands under a starry sky decorated with constellations and bead-like designs. Next to the book is a circular photo of the author smiling, with a TIME for Kids “Kid Reporter” badge in the corner.

In All the Stars in the Sky, Clay can’t wait to be the star of the week. He thinks that will make him the most important person in the school. Then his elisi, or grandma, teaches him that he’ll never be the most important. Everyone is equally important. That’s the book’s message.

Author Art Coulson spoke with TIME for Kids. “We all have a part in making the community stronger,” he says. Each person helps the community shine. This is what Clay learns. The stars are a metaphor. “It’s not just the one star that’s important,” Coulson says.
