Eat for the Earth

Some food choices are better for the planet than others. Below are a few tips for eating in ways that are easier on the environment.

Shop locally.

Food is shipped from different places. The farther it travels, the more energy is used. Farmers markets (above) sell food grown nearby.

Use your extras.

You can eat leftovers for lunch. Save extra ingredients after you cook. Use them in a new recipe. This reduces waste.

Grow food.

Start a garden in your backyard. Or put a planter near a window. Plant vegetable seeds. Some veggie scraps can be regrown, too.

Eat more plants.

Raising animals takes a lot of land and water. Fruits and vegetables use less. That saves resources.
