Love and Loss

A close-up of a smiling animated pig looking at a spider hanging from a thread in front of its nose, referencing Charlotte’s Web. In the corner is a circular photo of a person smiling, and a TIME for Kids “Kid Reporter” badge appears in the top left corner.

Charlotte’s Web is a classic novel by E.B. White. Now it’s also an animated miniseries. True to the book, there’s some sadness in the show. But there’s a hopeful ending.

The three-part series is available on HBO Max. Luke Matheny is its head writer. He recommends families watch it together. Viewers will “experience very big feelings at the end,” he tells TIME for Kids. He thinks it will help them understand big questions in their lives. Questions about “friendship, life, death, and love,” Matheny says.
