Have you heard of a donkey that rescued injured soldiers during World War I? How about Rip, a small dog that searched for people trapped under rubble in the London air raids of World War II? These animals and more are included in Heroes: Incredible True Stories of Courageous Animals.

The book was written by David Long and illustrated by KERRY HYNDMAN (pictured). It features true stories of courageous animal who saved lives in times of war. Hyndman says the book shows that heroes are not always people. She hopes readers are inspired by these incredible animals. “It doesn’t matter where you are in the world,” she told TFK Kid Reporter Ishaan Bhattacharya. “Everyone can still enjoy reading about animals and their connection to humans.”
