The University of Michigan Wolverines won the 2026 NCAA men’s basketball title on April 6, defeating the University of Connecticut (UConn) Huskies. It’s Michigan’s first national title since 1989. The win concluded the NCAA Division I tournament—the March Madness tournament— which tipped off March 15.

The final score was 69 to 63, after a close game. Michigan got off to a rocky start. The Wolverines missed their first 11 three-point shots, the AP reports. But the team rallied, concluding an impressive tournament performance. The Wolverines won their first five March Madness games by 13 points or more. They also became the first team ever to score at least 90 points in every one of those games.

“This team just found a way all season,” said Michigan’s head coach, Dusty May.
