Saving the World

ROBERT FALCONER—NETFLIX

Avatar: The Last Airbender is a new live-action show. It’s coming to Netflix on February 22. It follows Aang, the new Avatar, as he strives to master air, water, earth, and fire.

Twelve-year-old Aang is the last of the race of Air Nomads. The world has been at war for a hundred years. Aang has been trapped inside an iceberg—“just chilling, literally,” says Gordon Cormier (above, left), who plays him. “[Aang] has a responsibility that he doesn’t really want to take care of, but he finds out he has to.”

Aang is freed by two members of the Southern Water Tribe. He must learn the art of bending the elements with his new friends. It’s up to him to unite the nations and bring peace to the world. But Princess Azula and the exiled Prince Zoku of the Fire Nation are trying to stop him.

Gordon says he’s “hopeful the fans are going to love this show and what [the cast has] done with it.”
