The Fad Fight

FROM LEFT: GEORGE CLEMENTS; STEPHEN BLUE FOR TIME FOR KIDS

Fidget spinners, slime, buttons—school fads catch on quickly, but are they always a good thing? The Friendship War, by ANDREW CLEMENTS, follows Grace and Ellie, who have been best friends for years. Suddenly, a button fad threatens to break up their friendship. The only way to save it is to put an end to this button trend. But will the fad be stronger than the friendship?

Clements spoke to TFK Kid Reporter Will Holland about his inspiration for the book. When he was a teacher, he saw trends come and go. But some things always stayed the same. “There are not many things as valuable as friendship,” Clements told TFK. He hopes the book will help readers reflect on their relationships: “Who are your friends, why are they your friends, and what is really important to you?”
