HILDE LYSIAK knows how to get to the bottom of things. The 11-year-old journalist rides her bike around her hometown of Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, looking for a good story. Hilde founded Selinsgrove’s newspaper, the Orange Street News. She especially enjoys writing about local crime and corruption. When investigating a story, she must be persistent. “Because of my age, a lot of people won’t talk to me,” Hilde told TFK. “But sometimes, I use my age to my advantage.”

Now Hilde and her father are working on a book series called Hilde Cracks the Case. The third book in the series, Fire! Fire!, was released in December. The books are fictional stories based on Hilde’s experiences as a reporter. “I think these books are going to inspire a whole new generation of reporters,” Hilde says. “Kids can accomplish anything!”
