Last month, TIME announced its 2025 Person of the Year. It’s actually a group: the architects of artificial intelligence. This group includes OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and several others. The announcement was made on December 11.
“Person of the Year is a powerful way to focus the world’s attention on the people that shape our lives,” Sam Jacobs says. He’s TIME’s editor in chief. He adds that last year, “no one had a greater impact” than the architects of AI.
Last year was also an exciting time for entertainment. KPop Demon Hunters was named TIME’s Breakthrough of the Year. TIME senior editor Eliza Berman called the movie “omnipresent.” That means it was all around us. TIME also honored actor Leonardo DiCaprio and YouTube CEO Neal Mohan. Basketball player A’ja Wilson was named Athlete of the Year.

These TIME honorees made a big impact in 2025. What will 2026 bring?
