In 2013, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) stated that recess time is crucial for students’ “social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.” Now the AAP is doubling down on the importance of recess, thanks to new evidence. A statement this month recommends at least 20 minutes of safe, monitored play for all kids each day. Recent studies show this can reduce stress and improve memory and attention.
