Presenting Weather

Al Roker is a weather forecaster. He is on TV. He tells viewers what weather they can expect. He has been doing this for 51 years. TIME for Kids asked him some questions about his work.
How do you prepare to give a forecast?

I work with a team of meteorologists. We look at radar, maps, and data. It takes about three hours to prepare for TV.
What is the hardest thing about your job?

Weather forecasters try to be as accurate as possible. Sometimes, we get the forecast wrong. People can be disappointed when this happens.
Why are weather forecasters important?

Weather impacts all our lives. It affects our activities. It affects farmers who grow crops. It affects pilots who fly planes.
What advice do you have for kids interested in a career in weather?

Go to your public library. Read books about weather. Watch a local TV station. See what its weather team is doing.
