What does America mean to you? That’s what the America’s Field Trip contest wants to know. Students in grades 3 through 12 can respond with art or writing. It’s part of the America250 initiative.

The contest was held in 2025 and 2026. Above, left, is a winning piece of art. It was done by Arjun K. in 2025. He was in fifth grade. Take a close look at his picture. What does it show?

Winning artists and writers are selected by educators. They’re invited on a trip with a chaperone. They explore an American landmark or cultural site. Last year, a group of winners went to Yellowstone National Park (above). Yellowstone was the world’s first national park. Another group saw the Golden Gate Bridge, in California. Another visited the Statue of Liberty, in New York.

These students are visiting Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, in August 2025. They won the America’s Field Trip contest.

The contest will open again in the fall. What would your submission be? Would you write it or draw it? What would it say or show?
