Flying High

Flight attendants go all over the world. They help keep travelers safe and comfortable. Jenessa Andrea works for United Airlines. She spoke to TIME for Kids about her job.
What is your job?
I manage the service and safety on board aircraft. I work with the captains. I often check on them and get to see the awesome views.
What childhood experiences led you to your career?
As a kid, I loved air travel. I used to sit in the window seat. I also loved helping people. I do that every day here. And I was fascinated by other places.
What kind of person makes a great flight attendant?
People who are compassionate. People who care about service and safety. And people who follow rules and procedures.
What if I’m afraid of flying?
Customers are usually afraid of turbulence. But the crew isn’t worried about the aircraft. The aircraft is safe. It was built to withstand turbulence.
