Countries often give one another gifts to strengthen their friendship. The United States has gotten many gifts. Read about a few.

On July 4, 1884, France presented The Statue of Liberty (above) to the U.S. It was given to celebrate the country’s 100th birthday. It stands in New York Harbor.

Giant Pandas have been a symbol of friendship between the U.S. and China since 1972. That year, China sent two of the furry creatures as a gift.

Since 1880, American presidents have worked at the Resolute Desk. It was a gift from Britain’s Queen Victoria. The wood is from a British ship.

In 1862, the king of Siam offered the U.S. a sword and two elephants. President Abraham Lincoln accepted the sword. He declined the elephants.
