Wintry Weather
Winter storms blasted the United States earlier this month. The chill impacted states as far south as Georgia and Florida.
In the Midwest, snow affected travel. Beginning January 17, parts of Ohio saw snow squalls. These are sudden weather events. They deliver heavy snow.
On January 19, more than 100 vehicles slid and crashed into one another on a highway. This happened near Grand Rapids, Michigan. State police say 12 people were hurt. Others were left stranded.
On the East Coast, snow fell on cities such as Boston and New York City. Snow is normal in these places. But it’s rare in others, such as Macon, Georgia. Parts of Macon got up to three inches of snow on January 18.

Chris Floore, a spokesperson for Macon-Bibb County, spoke with a local news station. He encouraged people to “stay off the roads” and enjoy the day: “We don’t get these very often.”
At press time, more winter weather was expected across much of the U.S.
