From October 31 to November 13, young athletes from all over the world will gather in Senegal for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games. About 2,700 athletes ages 17 and under will compete in a wide variety of sports, including skateboarding, cycling, and baseball. Events will be held in three places: Dakar, Diamniadio, and Saly. It will be the first Olympic Games ever held in Africa.

Look for the official Games mascot, Ayo the Lion. Ayo was designed by 16-year-old Ndeye Mariama Diop, from Senegal. The lion wears a traditional Senegalese hat called a tingandé, made from banana leaves. “I was inspired by all the cultures of Senegal,” Ndeye told Olympics.com. Her design was chosen from nearly 500 student entries.
