A laboratory is a place for experiments and research. The International Space Station (ISS) is a space laboratory. Astronauts live and work there. They come from many countries.
Round and Round
The ISS orbits the Earth. It is about 250 miles away. Astronauts can spend four hours or a few days getting there. It depends on where the ISS is in its orbit. The ISS travels around the Earth quickly. It makes 16 orbits each day.
The ISS is as long as a football field. Look at the diagram. It tells you about each part.
