There have been 46 U.S. presidents. Each has made a mark on the country’s history. But only a few can be called Number 1.

George Washington was one of the country’s founders. He was the first president. He was elected in 1789.

James A. Garfield was the 20th president. But he was the first left-handed president. He was elected in 1880.

Bill Clinton was the 42nd president. Email was new in the 1990s. Clinton was the first president to send one.

Barack Obama was elected as the 44th president in 2008. He was the first Black person to hold the office.
