Did you know that fireworks are thousands of years old? The earliest fireworks were made about 2,000 years ago. That was in China. People roasted bamboo. Bamboo stalks are hollow. Air inside exploded!

Later, people filled the stalks with gunpowder. They threw them into a fire. Steel dust or iron shavings were added. This made them sparkle. These firecrackers were used in celebrations.

In the United States, fireworks are a July 4 tradition. Only professionals should set them off. But everyone can enjoy them from a safe distance!
